The Emory University Department of Biomedical Informatics is recruiting for tenure track faculty positions in the area of biomedical informatics and data science with the possibility of joint appointments in other departments including the Department of Radiology & Imaging Sciences and the Georgia Institute of Technology/Emory Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Department of Biomedical Informatics is a highly dynamic and multidisciplinary environment that has strengths in clinical informatics, imaging informatics, bioinformatics, machine learning, signal processing and mHealth. The clinical informatics group fosters collaborative projects between software systems researchers and scientific research groups, and between clinical informatics researchers, clinicians and healthcare. The Emory Department of Biomedical Informatics is closely aligned with the Emory University Department of Math and Computer Science, with Emory Healthcare Information Services, Emory University Research Informatics and Georgia Institute of Technology/Emory Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering.  Many members of our faculty hold joint appointments. The successful candidate will provide leadership in planning and implementing future information systems that support clinical research as well as develop a multi-disciplinary research program in areas related to the strengths and interests of the School of Medicine. They will enable comparative analyses and integration of enormous data sets across multiple studies and sources. The attending will be assigned to the 12 bed Psychiatric Emergency Room (PER) under the administrative responsibility of the Medical Director of Emergency Psychiatry. The PER is staffed with nurses, social workers, mental health technicians, residents and students from Emory/ MSM medical, nursing and PA schools. In this position the attending will be responsible for covering the clinical service on the PER for 32 hours of shift coverage per week (4 eight hour shifts) including shifts overnight and on weekends and holidays. The attending will also be responsible for 8 additional hours of administrative time which could include teaching, residency supervision, quality improvement projects, CME, presentations at national meetings on emergency psychiatry and research in emergency psychiatry. The administrative time will be agreed upon with the Medical Director of Emergency Psychiatry as part of the attending’s faculty development plan and will be accounted for in the monthly faculty time reports.   The PER attending will be assigned to: The initial assessments of patients triaged to the PER to ensure that the patients are medically appropriate for the PER; Initiating an initial treatment plan including medical workup and medication management; Leading a team of clinicians to determine the most appropriate treatment plan (e.g., discharge with outpatient follow up, admitting to temporary observation or inpatient admission) including providing medical clearance; Providing emergency room consults; Rounding on patients in the Crisis Intervention Services on 13B with the psychiatric resident; Supervising medical, nursing and PA students and residents in the PER and 13B; And providing after hours consultation services for the general hospital over the phone, or when they are available to leave the PER, providing the consultation at the bedside; Supervising the evening and overnight resident covering 13A and 13B. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Addiction Psychiatrist to join its outpatient faculty. As part of a growing Addiction Psychiatry Service, this position will offer the opportunity to participate in clinical care and education. The Director will oversee clinical, research and educational missions, reporting directly to the Chair of Neurology.  The Emory Epilepsy Program is an NAEC-accredited Level 4 epilepsy center. Our program is particularly strong in epilepsy surgery (including the largest series of laser ablation patients in the country), neurostimulation, intensive care EEG monitoring, neurpsychology, and epidemiology. The Program faculty is comprised of 12 fellowship-trained neurologists and three epilepsy neuropsychologists. We work closely with two epilepsy neurosurgeons, 7 pediatric epileptologists, and a strong array of basic scientists. A recently-completed strategic plan for the Epilepsy Program calls for significant increased resources and integration with all epilepsy-related activities within the University. The Director will coordinate and develop all epilepsy and EEG services at Emory’s 4 primary teaching hospitals: Emory University Hospital, EUH Midtown, Grady Memorial Hospital, and the Atlanta VA Medical Center, as well as epilepsy care for patients throughout the Emory Healthcare network.  Epilepsy research at Emory is currently supported by over $15 million dollars in research funding ranging from genetics, proteomics, basic electrophysiology, behavioral studies, and non-human primate work to clinical studies, outcomes research and epidemiology.
