The Department of Emergency Medicine, Emory School of Medicine and Grady Health System announces an opening for Grady Emergency Care Center Medical Director.   Grady Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Care Center (ECC) is the region’s premiere Level 1 Trauma Center and the busiest emergency department in Emory’s emergency medicine program. The Grady ECC provides over 150,000 emergency visits, serving as Metro Atlanta’s Regional Safety Net Hospital. In addition, the ECC provides critical services such as a nationally recognized burn center, a 20 bed state of the art emergency medicine-managed observation unit, the designated regional disaster coordinating center, and care to many vulnerable populations. The Grady ECC serves as the primary site for our 3-year residency training program with 60 residents and numerous fellowships. Approximately 60 faculty and 45 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) also provide care in the Grady ECC.  Grady serves as the primary site for most of the department’s clinical research. Our department is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, wellness and well-being for our faculty, residents, APP’s, learners and staff.   The Medical Director is responsible for the day to day operations of the ECC.  Duties will include planning, implementation, and evaluation of all medical care and ancillary services provided to patients presenting to the ECC.  Areas of oversight will include the Walk-in Center, Medical Zones, Marcus Trauma Center, Detention, PES (Psych), Sickle Cell and the Clinical Decision Unit (Obs).  The medical director will work closely with Nursing, Laboratory and Radiology and other ancillary services to ensure the care delivered to patients within the ECC meets the standards of care.  The medical director will work cooperatively and collegially with admitting and consultative services to provide emergency services for all patients who present to the ECC.   Our vision is to be the premier academic Emergency Medicine Department in the nation by leading the transformation in acute and emergency care delivery. A qualified candidate will be a nationally recognized board-certified Emergency Medicine physician who will have the necessary privileges to provide patient care throughout Emory Healthcare and Grady Health System. An advanced degree such as MPH, MHA, and MBA is desirable but not mandatory. The individual will provide senior leadership in all clinical, educational and research endeavors involving emergency medicine for the faculty located in the Emergency Care Center at Grady, with responsibility for the continued development of an academically distinguished department within the Emergency Medicine program. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience directing emergency care services in a high-volume emergency department and embrace the core values of the department. Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta is seeking applications for a full-time faculty position in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Responsibilities include the patient care, didactic education and clinical teaching of residents, and research. The position includes responsibilities at Grady Memorial Hospital, The Emory Clinic, Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown Emory, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.   The candidate should have an interest in major oral and maxillofacial surgery with a particular interest in trauma management and is expected to actively participate in the clinical and research activities. The Emory University Hospitals are tertiary care and quaternary academic medical centers while Grady Memorial Hospital and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta are designated Level I trauma centers. The individual will be expected to participate in the Emory oral and maxillofacial faculty practice. Collaborative opportunities are available with the School of Medicine, School of Public Health, CDC, Yerkes Regional Primate Center and Georgia Institute of Technology.   The position requires a DDS/DMD degree from a CODA accredited US or Canadian dental school and completion of a CODA-approved oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program. Other degrees such as MD, PhD are valuable, but not required. The candidate should be board-eligible or certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Emory University’s Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery seeks three full-time fellowship trained Cardiothoracic Surgeons at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to join a robust team. An appointment at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor is anticipated, depending upon the candidate’s qualifications. All three of these positions will practice adult cardiac surgery at one or more Emory hospitals, including call coverage. This position is largely involved in clinical service in the specialty of hematology, primarily with regard to the care of individuals with sickle cell disease in the Georgia Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at Grady Health System. We expect you to be an active participant in the growth and development of the sickle cell program as it becomes a leader in the field. Also, we expect you to participate actively in the classical hematology clinic at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Your participation in both these programs will involve professional patient care services, collaboration with program leaders and colleagues, attendance at various departmental and national meetings, and also education and clinical investigation as appropriate, necessary, and practical.   As appropriate, we expect you to submit applications for Career Development and Developmental Research Awards. This would include enrolling patients to clinical trials, aiding with specimen collection and initiating novel clinical trials.   We expect you to serve as an outstanding teacher and provide supervision of residents and Hematology and Medical Oncology fellows as appropriate and necessary. You may be asked to give lectures as appropriate and also serve as a preceptor for residents and fellows in the outpatient clinics.   Your initial clinical responsibilities will include three half-day outpatient clinic sessions per week. We expect you to staff the adult sickle cell clinic at Grady Health System up to one full day per week and also support related acute care services. In addition, a half day clinic at Emory University Hospital Midtown seeing benign hematology patients, is expected. We expect you to provide inpatient coverage on the Hematology inpatient consultation service at least 4 half-months (8 weeks) per year at Grady Hospital (6 weeks) and Emory University Hospital Midtown (2 weeks).   The amount of time you would be required to devote to clinical activities might be adjusted in the future, pending other professional and research activities. You will be expected to interact closely with members of the Division of Hematology and with Emory and other referring physicians to build a strong patient referral base.
