  The Santangelo laboratory in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Emory University, within the School of Medicine and Emory Vaccine Center is seeking several highly motivated and detailed scientists with interest in gene modulation, mRNA therapeutics, lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation, immunology, and treatments for cancer, autoimmune disorders, and infectious disease. The Santangelo lab routinely publishes in high-impact journals such as Nature Biotechnology (Blanchard et al., 2021), Nature Materials (Rotolo et al., 2023), Molecular Therapy (Lindsay et al., 2020), ACS Nano (Beyersdorf et al. 2022), Advanced Science (Vanover et al., 2023), and more. The laboratory is outfitted with state-of-the-art testing equipment to enable mRNA preparation, LNP formulation, therapeutic testing, and more. In addition to federal funding, the Santangelo lab works with industry leaders in the mRNA synthesis, LNP formulation, and therapeutic spaces. We are actively expanding the ability of the laboratory to investigate multiple types of mRNA drugs in parallel. The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine is seeking a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist committed to an academic career in Gynecology & Obstetrics. The position will hold a rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience.   Established more than 25 years ago, the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division was one of the first specialty units in the country. Today the division provides services at Emory Perinatal Center at Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory Perinatal Center at Decatur, and the Grady Regional Perinatal Center, the largest of only six regional high-risk infant care centers in the south. The division is seeking MFM specialists to serve at GMH, Emory Decatur, Emory Johns Creek and Emory Midtown Hospitals.   Duties and Responsibilities: This position will encompass service to the University in areas of patient care, teaching, and research, and committee work appropriate to their professional training and capabilities and their career goals. Responsibilities include providing consultative services for the General obstetricians in the treatment of obstetric and maternal fetal medicine concerns. Faculty members are expected to supervise sonographers assigned to the clinical practice location.   Faculty Members are also expected to participate activity in the teaching aspects of the Department. The project(s) will focus on the synthesis and identification, followed by optimization, of active antiviral compounds, and then the optimization of synthetic processes to prepare such compounds to meet key development objectives and milestones. Furthermore, interested individuals must also be motivated to prepare key research results and findings for peer review and oral presentations.   Our institute is dedicated to the identification and development of antiviral agents suitable for the treatment and prevention of disease resulting from emerging and reemerging viral infections that affect hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Since our inception in 2010, we have advanced 1 compound to phase 3 clinical trials, one to phase 2, and a third to late stage preclinical testing. The successful applicant will join our multidisciplinary research group working on fully integrated activities for the discovery and development of new antiviral therapies.   A Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry or related fields is required. The primary criteria for selection of an appropriate candidate is a strong background and demonstrated proficiency in multi-step organic synthesis of complex molecules and a thorough grasp and command of modern and classic organic transformations and mechanisms.   The Department of Emergency Medicine, Emory School of Medicine and Grady Health System announces an opening for Grady Emergency Care Center Medical Director.   Grady Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Care Center (ECC) is the region’s premiere Level 1 Trauma Center and the busiest emergency department in Emory’s emergency medicine program. The Grady ECC provides over 150,000 emergency visits, serving as Metro Atlanta’s Regional Safety Net Hospital. In addition, the ECC provides critical services such as a nationally recognized burn center, a 20 bed state of the art emergency medicine-managed observation unit, the designated regional disaster coordinating center, and care to many vulnerable populations. The Grady ECC serves as the primary site for our 3-year residency training program with 60 residents and numerous fellowships. Approximately 60 faculty and 45 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) also provide care in the Grady ECC.  Grady serves as the primary site for most of the department’s clinical research. The Grady ECC has new facilities that house the esteemed Marcus Trauma Center.   The Emory Department of Emergency Medicine is one of the largest, busiest, and most innovative organizations of its kind in the U.S., nationally and internationally recognized for its expertise in emergency health system management, clinical emergency medicine, public health management, injury prevention, disaster management, pre-hospital care and emergency medical services, toxicology services, observation medicine, ultrasound, and palliative care. Emory University School of Medicine is recognized nationally and internationally as one of the nation’s outstanding institutions of biomedical education, research and patient care and is dedicated to training exceptional students who become leaders in academic medicine and biomedical research. Our department is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, wellness and well-being for our faculty, residents, APP’s, learners and staff.   The Medical Director is responsible for the day to day operations of the ECC.  Duties will include planning, implementation, and evaluation of all medical care and ancillary services provided to patients presenting to the ECC.  Areas of oversight will include the Walk-in Center, Medical Zones, Marcus Trauma Center, Detention, PES (Psych), Sickle Cell and the Clinical Decision Unit (Obs).  The medical director will work closely with Nursing, Laboratory and Radiology and other ancillary services to ensure the care delivered to patients within the ECC meets the standards of care.  The medical director will work cooperatively and collegially with admitting and consultative services to provide emergency services for all patients who present to the ECC.   Our vision is to be the premier academic Emergency Medicine Department in the nation by leading the transformation in acute and emergency care delivery. A qualified candidate will be a nationally recognized board-certified Emergency Medicine physician who will have the necessary privileges to provide patient care throughout Emory Healthcare and Grady Health System. An advanced degree such as MPH, MHA, and MBA is desirable but not mandatory. The individual will provide senior leadership in all clinical, educational and research endeavors involving emergency medicine for the faculty located in the Emergency Care Center at Grady, with responsibility for the continued development of an academically distinguished department within the Emergency Medicine program.
