The Emory Wound and Hyperbaric Center is an UHMS accredited facility providing exceptional, evidence-based wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy delivered by a multidisciplinary team of medical experts. The Emory Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center is a tertiary referral clinic caring for a large population of atypical wounds such as calciphylaxis, pyoderma gangrenosum, hidradenitis, radiation injury, vasculitic and malignant wounds as well as pressure ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and arterial ulcers. Applicant Requirements The department of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking applicants for a fellowship position in Structural Heart, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement. Applicants must have successfully completed a cardiac surgery residency program, been involved in research during their residency, and have catheter experience via vascular surgery or cardiology rotations. Applicants who did not complete their residency in the United States must also have passed the USMLE I, II, and III exams and have an H-1B VISA. Objectives By completion of the program, fellows should be able to conduct the preoperative evaluation of transcatheter aortic and mitral valve patients, which includes compiling slides for every preoperative patient and presenting national clinical trial patients on adjudication calls. Fellows will learn to use and manipulate 3mensio imaging software for CT scan reconstruction and TAVR planning, demonstrate efficiency with percutaneous techniques such as mitra-clip, and become familiar with newly emerging tricuspid and mitral valve devices. Fellows will be expected to perform TAVR procedures as the primary operator, and display facility with such alternative access approaches as direct aortic, transapical, subclavian, transcaval, and transcarotid sites. They will also participate in thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) procedures performed by staff cardiac and vascular surgeons. Fellows will develop and demonstrate team leadership skills while collaborating with research staff and allied TAVR program personnel. Fellows will become comfortable with the the structural heart team's organization, interaction of disciplines, and function. Fellows will contribute to academic presentations at morbidity and mortality conferences and research conferences for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Clinical Responsibilities Fellows participate in the care of inpatients, both on the ward and in the intensive care unit, and will be involved in outpatient clinic preoperative and follow-up care. Fellows assist on open cardiac surgery cases at least one-to-two days per week. -It is REQUIRED that all candidates possess the following credentials: (1) A current (or eligibility for) a Georgia medical license and DEA license (2) Successfully completed a cardiac surgery residency program, been involved in research during their residency, and have catheter experience via vascular surgery or cardiology rotations(3) (3) Applicants who did not complete their residency in the United States must also have passed the USMLE I, II, and III exams and have an H-1B VISA.  

  The goal of the fellowship is to provide specialized training in adult cardiac surgery beyond cardiothoracic surgery residency training.  The Cardiothoracic Fellow will rotate at all Emory University Hospital campuses.   The Cardiothoracic Fellow will receive advanced training in and be responsible for the following knowledge areas and skills sets including, but not limited to: - Within the first 4 months of the training: Become proficient in the preoperative evaluation of adult cardiac surgical patients, the management of intensive care patients, and the management of post-operative problems in adult cardiothoracic surgery. The fellow should gain an understanding of pathologic conditions causing myocardial ischemia and requiring myocardial revascularization and cardiac valve dysfunction.  The fellow should become proficient in performing cannulation for cardiopulmonary bypass, decannulation after termination of cardiopulmonary bypass and closing of the incisions in patients undergoing cardiac surgical procedures.  - Months 4-8 of training: Develop increasing knowledge in the management of pre-operative, peri-operative and post-operative problems in cardiac surgical patients; Develop increasing proficiency in myocardial revascularization procedures including the performance of proximal and distal anastomoses and the performance of internal mammary artery anastomoses, both on and off pump; develop skills in the performance of reoperative sternotomy procedures; develop knowledge of indications, pre-operative management, peri-operative management and post-management problems in cardiac valvular disease and should begin to develop operative skills in this area. - Months 8-12: Refine skills in adult myocardial revascularization procedures performing triple and quadruple bypass procedures in non-reoperative patients with facility; Become an expert in reoperative sternotomies, both opening and closing.  Participate as first assistant in the most complex cardiac procedures including multiple valve procedures combined with myocardial revascularization; Become facile with valve operations performing both aortic and mitral replacement and mitral valve repair procedures; Participate in aortic replacement and repair procedures and should develop specific knowledge in this specialized area. - The fellow is expected to participate in bimonthly cardiothoracic surgical rounds, and weekly didactic lectures covering the entire range of cardiothoracic surgery using the Thoracic Surgery Director’s Association Comprehensive Cardiac Surgical Curriculum. Weekly cardiac surgical/cardiology conferences are held which are also mandatory for fellow attendance. The fellow has the opportunity for research activity and indeed is expected to conduct one clinical research project per year to be presented at the end of the year at the fellow/resident research day.  On this day each resident/fellow presents a clinical or laboratory research project to a visiting professor.   It is REQUIRED that all candidates possess the following credentials: (1)   Completion of an accredited cardiothoracic residency program; (2)   A current (or eligibility for) a Georgia medical license and DEA license; (3)   International candidates must have their H1B visa to be considered; (4)   USMLE Step 1-2; (5)   International medical graduates must have ECFMG Certification.

The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. The Department of Orthopaedics at Emory University School of Medicine is seeking applications for two available faculty positions at the Associate Professor and Professor level on the tenure-eligible track to complement their multidisciplinary musculoskeletal research program. Successful candidates will join a vibrant team of independent musculoskeletal researchers who lead various aspects of bone homeostasis and repair, muscle biology and volumetric muscle loss, spine development, and degenerative diseases as well as joint development and inflammatory diseases.  Candidates with a specific focus on systems biology, epigenetics, forward genetics, developmental biology and stem cell biology would be given priority. This position will practice at our facility at Emory Musculoskeletal Research Center .   Successful candidates are expected to sustain a nationally recognized and federally funded research program in one or more of the above focus areas in musculoskeletal research. They will also be expected to develop collaborations with clinician scientists in the Department of Orthopaedics and within the musculoskeletal research community. They will also be encouraged to interact with broader collaborative community of researchers at Emory University as well as other partnering institutions.   Generous start-up funds and laboratory space will be provided with a primary appointment in the Department of Orthopaedics and a secondary appointment in an appropriate basic science Department within Emory School of Medicine.    While these positions are not focused on teaching, participation in the overall education mission of the University will be highly recommended.

The Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging of Emory University has openings for a 1-year PET combined clinical-research fellowship starting July 1, 2022. The Department of Radiology maintains an excellent academic environment with a strong commitment to research and teaching in a wide range of disciplines. The fellowship will combine clinical PET training with the potential for protected research time and an opportunity to work with novel PET radiotracers among many other clinical and research possibilities. Clinical duties may include on-call responsibilities as well as additional duties covering a nuclear medicine service at one of the teaching institutions of Emory. Radionuclide therapy procedures using non-sealed sources are part of nuclear medicine clinical responsibilities. A new purpose designed theranostic center is opening at Emory University Hospital Midtown in the summer of 2023 integrated with a multi-disciplinary GI/GU clinic. For the qualified candidate, there may be an option to create a personalized program, which could include body imaging as well as general and cardiac nuclear medicine rotations. An option for a second year of fellowship experience may also be considered at the discretion of the Fellowship Director and Division Director. There are 8 full time physicians in Nuclear Medicine. There are also 12 dedicated research faculty including 11 PhDs and 1 MD among six translational and basic science laboratories.   The equipment at the Emory University affiliated nuclear medicine departments includes state-of-the-art imaging and computer systems. Each institution has several imaging systems including SPECT and SPECT/CT and specialized computer facilities. Emory has a PET Center, including two PET/CT scanners and a PET/MR as well as PET/CTs at Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory St. Josephs Emory Johns Creek, Grady Memorial Hospital, and the VA Medical Center. Additional research instruments include dedicated research PET/CT, a micro PET/CT preclinical scanner, a multispectral in-vivo fluorescence imaging system, and a cyclotron located in a new research building. Research opportunities are available for fellows in both clinical and basic research; research is required and is tailored to the individual's long-term goals. Research facilities include state-of-the-art cyclotron and radiochemistry services, animal imaging research laboratories utilizing PET-CT and a wide variety of other resources. The Division is integrally involved in research conducted by Emory University School of Medicine faculty, including close collaboration with colleagues in Radiology, Cardiology and the Winship Cancer Institute. Currently, there are active clinical research programs involving new PET and single-photon radiotracers, therapeutics, Y-90 microsphere therapy, and many other projects involving translational medicine. Protected research time may be available depending on clinical needs and research progress, and meeting time to attend professional conferences may be available.   Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have completed a nuclear medicine or radiology residency and be either board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine or The American Board of Radiology. The Neuroimmunology fellow will attend to patient care responsibilities including daily outpatient management of neuroimmunology patients with a broad spectrum of diseases including Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromyelitis Optica, MOGAD, Neurosarcoidosis, Autoimmune Encephalitis, Systemic Autoimmune disorders affecting CNS. In year one this is mainly under the supervision of attending physicians, but they have a supervised primary clinic as well. Training in the diagnosis and management of most Nonimmunological conditions under the direction of designated neurology attending physicians. Training includes participation in various academic activities including Neuroradiology and Neuropthalmology. Fellows are exposed to and expected to learn to manage patients with Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromyelitis Optica, Neurosarcoidosis and all types of Autoimmune encephalitis among other more rare conditions.  Expertise are gathered in prescribing and surveilling medications of increase complexity like immunomodulators and immunosuppressants. The fellow coordinates and leads bimonthly Neuroimmunology/Neuroradiology case conference where difficult cases are presented and reviewed.  The fellow also coordinates bimonthly Neuroimmunology academic conference/journal club where we discuss recent literature, invite speakers and update on current practices. Fellow’s work educating residents and medical student while on the clinic setting as well as participate in Friday lectures that happen annually.  Lectures are also given to psychiatry residents.  The fellow must assist grand rounds and is expected to attend at least one national meeting a year with the goal of presenting a poster/abstract. While under the direction of a designated mentor, the fellow will develop and complete unique and collaborative clinical and/or basic science research project(s) in any of the neuroimmunology disorders.  It will be expected that fellows will publish results of their work and/or clinical papers.

Applicants may apply to more than one focus but should specify their preferred position.   The Emory Healthcare Veterans Program (EHVP) fellowship provides advanced training to prepare trainees to assume a variety of roles as professional psychologists, with in-depth training in serving the mental health needs of our nation’s veteran population. The EHVP Fellowship is structured with a dual focus on advanced clinical training and clinical research. Fellows obtain outstanding training in the practice of clinical psychology under the direction of Drs. Barbara O. Rothbaum and Sheila A.M. Rauch, with in-depth training in evidence-based treatment for invisible wounds (PTSD, MST, TBI, SUD, and depression, among others) among a diverse veteran population. Fellows practice within an interdisciplinary team that provides holistic care including outpatient and innovative intensive outpatient settings. Trainees contribute to the leading edge of knowledge in evidence-based care. Research interests among EHVP faculty include, but are not limited to: PTSD, anxiety, mental health disparities and access to care, psychotherapy outcomes, military sexual trauma (MST), exposure therapy, substance use disorders, virtual reality-based exposure therapies (VRET), adjunctive pharmacological therapies (MDMA, THC), neurobiological predictors/outcomes of treatment, and early intervention/prevention of PTSD. Participation in research provides opportunities to gain a breadth of practice and collaborate with colleagues across the Emory community and nationwide. The Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics is seeking a Chief of Service and General Obstetrics and Gynecology Division Director at Grady, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Emory University School of Medicine.   The Emory Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics provides full scope of obstetrics services for patients at Grady Memorial Hospital and is also a Regional Perinatal Center for the state of Georgia. We provide outpatient care for both routine and high-risk pregnancies, as well as run inpatient antepartum and postpartum services as well as an OB Triage unit.  Grady Memorial Hospital is the only Level 1 trauma center in Atlanta, and the obstetric service offers obstetric intensive care as well as arranges transport for high-risk maternal and fetal patients from across the region, including placenta accreta spectrum patients.   The Grady Perinatal Center provides antepartum fetal testing and routine obstetric scans, and the obstetric service offers procedures including Cesarean sections, External Cephalic Versions, forceps, vacuum deliveries, as well as amniocentesis and cerclage. Grady Memorial Hospital is one of the main teaching sites for the Emory Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Residency, and both faculty and resident are in-house for Labor and Delivery coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and maternal-fetal-medicine subspecialists are available day and night  Additionally, our service provides Nurse Midwifery services, both in the ambulatory setting at some of the Grady Neighborhood Health Centers and in the ambulatory clinics at Grady, as well as inpatient services on the labor and delivery, OB Triage, and postpartum units. The Nurse Midwives also facilitate Centering group prenatal care.      Grady Memorial Hospital is a nationally renowned tertiary care hospital located in downtown Atlanta. It is one of the busiest trauma hospitals in the country and the only Level 1 trauma center in Atlanta metro area. The hospital also has a large center devoted to care for burns, advanced comprehensive stroke, cancer and women’s health.   The Lakdawala lab research emerging respiratory pandemic viruses, including airborne transmission and intracellular viral replication. Research in the Lakdawala lab spans basic molecular virology to animal models of pathogenesis and transmission and extends into human epidemiological data. Using a diverse set of techniques, our research stretches across scales to be provide profound insight into emerging pandemic threats.   JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.   Prefered skills: Knowledge of computer languages such as R and python. In addition, expertise with animal research and basic molecular biology research.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field.   Instructor--Fellowship in Hemostasis and Thrombosis Overview   The fellowship is an intensive one-year program, June 2024 -July 2025, for physicians who have completed a hematology or hematology/oncology fellowship and wish to have advanced training in the management of patients with hemostatic and thrombotic disorders. The goal of the training is to prepare fellows for a career that will include care of patients with congenital bleeding disorders. Fellows as an Instructor, will have clinical responsibilities (inpatient and outpatient), dedicated research time, and mentorship to allow for professional development. Fellows will complete eight weeks as the attending physician on the hematology consultation service at Emory University Hospitals. Fellows will be paired with faculty mentors to provide guidance and directed learning. When not on the consultation service, fellows will have 1-1.5 days of clinic per week including the multidisciplinary comprehensive bleeding disorders clinic. The aim and expectation of the fellowship is for the fellow to acquire and manage patients with a variety of hemostatic and thrombotic disorders. Fellows will also design and complete a research project in their chosen area, and will participate in education of our Hematology/Oncology fellows and other trainees.     Curriculum   Understand normal hemostasis. Understand the pathophysiology of congenital and acquired bleeding disorders and how this translates into diagnosis and management.   Manage acute bleeding events in patients with hemophilia, hemophilia with inhibitor, von Willebrand disease, platelet function defects, fibrinolytic defects, and acquired coagulation disorders secondary to coagulation factor inhibitors, von Willebrand factor inhibitors, and anticoagulants. Develop treatment plans to reduce complications of congenital bleeding disorders (hemophilia, hemophilia with inhibitor, Von Willebrand disease, platelet function defects, etc). Manage patients with congenital bleeding disorders (hemophilia, hemophilia with inhibitor, von Willebrand disease, platelet function defects, etc.) during invasive and surgical procedures to reduce bleeding complications. Work with the multidisciplinary team to manage complications of congenital bleeding disorders, including but not limited to inhibitors, arthropathy, heavy menstrual bleeding, and pain. Understand the role that point-of-care ultrasound plays in evaluation of acute and chronic joint pain. Evaluate patients with thrombosis for thrombophilia, duration of anticoagulation, and complications of thrombotic disease.   Manage complications of thrombotic disease and anticoagulation. Understand the role of laboratory testing in the management of patients with thrombosis. Develop and implement strategies to reduce complications of pregnancy related hemostatic and thrombotic disorders.     Eligibility   Applicants must have completed an accredited fellowship in Hematology/Oncology or Hematology, have passed the certifying examination of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and qualify to take the Hematology subspecialty examination of the American Board of Internal Medicine by the start date of the Fellowship.
