Dr. Hansen’ lab studies the interactions between satellite cells and the vasculature. Satellite cells are skeletal muscle progenitor cells that are known to play an important role in muscle repair after injury and adaptation to exercise. However, the Hansen lab focuses on a previously underexplored role of satellite cells in vascular growth. They have found that satellite cells, when activated, produced a number of chemoattractant growth factors that drive the migration of vascular smooth muscle and endothelial cells which in an important factor in the growth and development of blood vessels. This area is of particular interest in the context of peripheral artery disease (PAD), where patients suffer from ischemic tissue damage but treatment options are still limited. We have found that the effectiveness of exercise therapy in PAD is related to satellite cell. We are currently using single cell sequencing techniques to explore satellite cell biology in the context of exercise with the hope of development more optimal exercise regimens.   This position would be focused on studying satellite cell heterogeneity and transcriptional regulation in response to exercise therapy.  The project will utilize mouse models of vascular growth, satellite cell ablation, and running as well biopsies from PAD patients undergoing exercise therapy. These brain data will be integrated with emotional, stress and cognitive measures in the same animals.   Preferred Requirements: PhD degree in Neuroscience (including Behavioral/Cognitive Neuroscience), and/or Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, Computer Science, MR Physics or related fields and research experience in processing and analysis of brain MRI/DTI/rs-fcMRI/MRS data (image registration, skull-stripping, atlas building, quality control), is required, preferably applied to the nonhuman primate brain. The Searles lab is broadly focused on posttranscriptional mechanisms responsible for regulation of vascular gene expression and development of cardiovascular disease. CCRSJ broadly defines civil rights and social justice matters to include all sources of systemic, social, and economic inequality, including race, gender, gender identity, sexuality, poverty, and disability. Marcus Autism Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University Department of Pediatrics are conducting a search for a doctoral-level clinician (i.e., psychologist or BCBA-D) with specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and early treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children to provide clinical care and to support the growth of our ABA Therapy Program.   This position primarily focuses on providing clinical care, as well as clinical case management and supervision of Master’s-level Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) providing intervention to children targeting core deficits of autism. Children seen in the program receive 1:1 intervention delivered by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) for 3 hours/day, 5 days/week in a clinic setting. The program emphasizes early and focused treatment targeting social communication and play skills, strives to ensure children are ready to move to a less-intensive setting by discharge, and heavily involves caregivers in their child’s intervention. The ABA Therapy program relies on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to inform treatment strategies, and utilizes a developmentally-appropriate approach to targeting skill deficits. The program also has several active ongoing research projects investigating the most effective and efficient ways to target core deficits of ASD. In the past year, the program has expanded beyond the Atlanta location to establish locations in both Cumming and Sandy Springs and has plans for continued growth. We are seeking individuals who are interested in joining a dedicated team of professionals seeking to provide the highest quality care to children with ASD. The clinician will be responsible for maintaining their own case load in the program, as well as providing mentorship and oversight to several BCBA providers across multiple program locations. The clinician will join a multidisciplinary treatment team that includes professionals from speech/language pathology, medicine, and care coordination/social work. The position will also involve supervision of trainees at the Master’s, predoctoral, and postdoctoral level. Postdoctoral positions are available Dr. Candace Floyd’s Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Research Laboratory in the Department of Emergency Medicine and  the affiliated Emory Neurotrauma Translational Research center at Grady (ENTiRe at Grady).  We seek to recruit and train highly qualified and motivated postdoctoral fellows in neurotrauma research and/or neuropathic pain research. The training program will emphasize the use of translational porcine preclinical research models of traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and neuropathic pain to fill important gaps in knowledge and accelerate advancement of therapeutics. Clinical-relevance to all research is emphasized by regular interactions with neurotrauma and neuropathic pain clinical practitioners as well as lived-experience consultants. Trainees will learn using a multidisciplinary approach in a mentor-based model.
