NRSA Post-doctoral Fellows:
MDs from various backgrounds pursuing a research career in cardiovascular disease, or PhD graduates in epidemiology, behavioral sciences, environmental sciences, health policy, or other relevant disciplines. Program covers stipend for up to two years.
Postdoctoral applicants should include a statement of research interests and proposed goals for the fellowship; curriculum vitae; and three letters of recommendation.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. Fellows in this program will learn to diagnose all types of inflammatory eye conditions, including infectious and non-infectious uveitis (anterior, intermediate, posterior, and panuveitis), scleritis, keratitis, and ocular pemphigoid. This will involve becoming proficient in a variety of ocular imaging modalities – particularly OCT, OCT-angiography, fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, and ultrasonography. Fellows will become comfortable in prescribing and managing systemic immunomodulatory therapies and the use of local corticosteroid injections. Based on the fellows’ interests, opportunities will be made available to participate in uveitic cataract surgeries and/or surgical glaucoma management.
Our residents receive graduated levels of supervision and autonomy as they progress from optometric primary clinical care into the more advanced sub-specialty care ophthalmology clinics such as Glaucoma, Cornea, Neuro-ophthalmic Disease, and Retina, while working alongside ophthalmology residents in various acute care, ambulatory, and in-patient clinical settings.
