The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University Department of Pediatrics, invites applications for a faculty position in pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant. Qualified candidates should be Board Certified/Eligible Hematologist/Oncologists, and preference will be given to applicants who wish to continue a career in clinical/translational research focused on Blood and Marrow Transplant. Additional expertise in clinical informatics is a plus. Clinical effort and research commitment are flexible depending on the candidate’s interests and training. Rank of assistant or associate professor will depend on experience and accomplishments.
About the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center
The successful candidate will join one of the strongest pediatric hematology/oncology/BMT programs in the country.
• The Aflac program has more than 100 faculty and 35 Advance Practice Providers (APPs).
• More than 7,000 children with cancer and blood disorders are treated annually at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.
• The Aflac pediatric oncology program cared for more than 500 new cancer cases last year, represents the pediatric arm of the Emory’s NCI-designated Winship Cancer Center, and is one of the four largest pediatric oncology programs in the country.
• The Aflac pediatric hematology program is one of the largest in the country (including 1900 active patients with sickle cell disease).
• The Aflac blood and marrow transplantation program performed over 80 transplants last year.
• Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta—the only tertiary pediatric center in the dynamic metropolitan Atlanta area—serves a population of nearly 6 million people, providing a strong basis for clinical programs in rare disorders.
This position will allow a wealth of opportunities for research collaborations within the Department of Pediatrics, with Emory’s NCI-designated cancer center (Winship Cancer Institute), as well as with Emory basic science departments, the Rollins School of Public Health, the American Cancer Society (located in Atlanta), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Successful candidates will have:
• MD or MD/PhD degrees
• Board Certification in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology
• Clinical informatics experience/certification preferred
• Currently licensed as a physician and eligible for licensure as a physician in the State of Georgia
• A strong record of scholarship and appropriate funding as an independent investigator, and will be expected to work in a collaborative fashion conducting nationally recognized research in pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant
• A history of academic excellence/achievement
Salary and rank of Assistant/Associate Professor at Emory University School of Medicine will be commensurate with experience and accomplishment.
