Helps designing, developing and implementing control and machine learning algorithms for closed-loop peripheral nerve stimulation for controlling organ function, while receiving advanced training to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent in neural engineering, neuroscience, electrical engineering/computer science or related fields. Expertise in computational physiology, machine learning, reinforcement learning or control algorithms. Experience with cloud computing and implementing machine learning algorithms in computing infrastructures. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Additional Details: The Emory University Department of Biomedical Informatics, in the School of Medicine, is recruiting for a post doctorate in the area of neuromodulation, computational neuro-engineering, machine learning, and signal processing applied to conduct high quality research with a particular focus on developing advanced neurostimulation control systems. Working in a multi-disciplinary team of computer scientists, engineers and organ physiologists across multiple institutions, this represents an opportunity to advance an academic career with strong mentorship and collaboration across schools and units.
Strong motivation for research at the interface of artificial intelligence and systems physiology and a strong sense of responsibility to complete research in a timely manner are required. The position will be for one year in the first instance but with a strong likelihood of continuing for several years if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Candidates for post doctorate positions are expected to work proactively, participate in research discussions, publish scholarly research papers, and disseminate research results.
Strong programming skills in Matlab and/or Python are essential; Experience with developing and implementing machine learning and signal processing algorithms in the setting of electrophysiological experiments is a strong plus.
