    Applications are sought for full-time faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine under the guidance of the Director of Medical Physics.

    Emory’s Department of Radiation Oncology serves seven clinical institutions (Emory University Hospital Clifton, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory Proton Therapy Center, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Emory Decatur Hospital, Emory Hillendale Hospital) in the Atlanta metro area and is an integral part of Winship, a National Cancer Institute-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The newest practice site, The Emory Proton Therapy Center, opened in late 2018 and offers pencil beam scanning. 

    The department treats nearly 3,000 patients annually. Highlights of the technology offered include 8 Varian™ linear accelerators, 2 Elekta™ linear accelerators, Gamma Knife®, Zeiss IntraBeam® intraoperative unit, multiple brachytherapy HDR afterloader units, big bore CT scanners with 4D capabilities, and access to MR and PET scanners. All linear accelerators are IGRT (2D, 3D) and respiratory motion management equipped. The oncology information systems include both ARIA® and Mosaiq® with treatment planning systems to include Eclipse™ and a planned deployment of RayStation©. 

    The department has grown in its clinical, teaching, and research activities in the past decade and is currently ranked top 5 in NIH funding among all radiation oncology departments within medical schools in the country (Blue Ridge 2017). There are currently 55 faculty members in the department’s Divisions of Clinical Affairs, Cancer Biology and Medical Physics. In addition, there is a fully accredited three-year training program for medical physics residents, as well as, a four-year training program for radiation oncology residents. Emory physics faculty also participate in Georgia Institute of Technology’s medical physics education and research programs.The Medical Physics Division has a successful research program and has multiple investigators funded by NIH and DoD in image-guided radiotherapy.

    Candidates must have a PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree. ABR board certification in therapeutic radiological physics is preferred. The candidate is expected to support clinical services, participate in the education of medical physicist residents and medical residents, conduct clinical and translational research. Applicants who have research interests in that significantly contribute to the overall departmental academic effort are strongly encouraged to apply.
