The Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center, one of the country’s premier health sciences centers, has outstanding opportunities for tenured or tenure-track health services research and population science researchers and academic leaders with research interests in diabetes and related complicatons to expand the institution’s diabetes applied translation research base. 

 

Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC), includes schools of medicine, public health, nursing, the Winship Cancer Center, and Yerkes National Primate Research Center, and received nearly $640 million in sponsored research in 2019.  The Emory Global Diabetes Research Center (EGDRC) and the NIDDK-funded Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research (GCDTR) are inter-disciplinary, multi-school, multi-institutional, research intensive programs of national and international prominence (http://diabetes.emory.edu/index.html).    EGDRC and GDDTR have active partnerships with key domestic institutions, including Georgia Clinical & Translational Science Alliance, Center for AIDS Research, Emory Healthcare, Grady Hospital, Veterans Administration, Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse School of Medicine, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Georgia Center for and numerous international institutions.

 

With the goal of expanding innovative research aimed at effective delivery of diabetes prevention and quality of care, the WHSC seeks we wish to strategically strengthen diabetes translation research in a few selected areas (e.g., health services research, application of technologies, machine learning and applied artificial intelligence, big data analytics, precision health).

 

Qualified candidates should have a MD and/or PhD (in a relevant discipline) with a strong record of academic research scholarship, a demonstrated capacity to publish and secure external funding, and the ability to be a team player while carving out a distinctive niche in diabetes translation research. Multiple opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration exist across WHSC and other Emory schools. The candidate’s interest and discipline will determine the primary appointment (e.g., schools of medicine, public health, or nursing), but cross-appointments with other WHSC schools and/or other Emory schools (Arts & Sciences, Business, Law) will be encouraged to foster the idea of “One Emory”.
