  • Description

     Emory University, School of Medicine, Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is offering a one-year combined clinical fellowship in Cardiothoracic Imaging and Imaging Informatics for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic year. This fellowship, with clinical and non-clinical components, will provide experience in advanced cardiovascular CT and MR, chest radiography, high-resolution chest CT, and dual-energy cardiothoracic CT; in addition,  it will provide requisite skills and knowledge for the trainee to lead in operations, innovation, quality, and research related to imaging informatics and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) applications. Fellows will be well qualified for either academic or private practice positions upon completion of this fellowship, and they will be knowledgeable in informatics applications, including AI/ML.


    Fellows will be exposed to a diverse patient population with ischemic heart disease, cardiomyopathies, cardiac infiltrative disease, adult congenital heart disease, advanced cardiothoracic surgery planning and follow-up, including TAVR/TVMR pre-planning, trauma and indigent care, oncologic disease, interstitial lung disease, and lung transplantation. The Division of Cardiothoracic Imaging has various weekly/monthly clinical conferences and has a close working relationship with cardiology, pulmonary medicine, vascular surgery and cardiothoracic surgery services. The faculty comprises 10 dedicated cardiothoracic radiologists pursuing interests in all aspect of thoracic and cardiovascular imaging in close collaboration with clinicians and surgeons. Fellows will be encouraged to participate in ongoing research, including interdisciplinary research in cardiac CT and MR in combination with advanced AI/ML techniques. Teaching opportunities are also available. Fellows will also participate in an ongoing informatics curriculum covering technical, research, and management topics, and they will gain knowledge on big data management and AI/Machine learning applications. Each fellow will also be engaged in year-long academic projects, and will be embedded in operational technology related projects.


    Emory Healthcare is the largest healthcare system in Georgia and one of the largest in the country, and it comprises 10 different hospitals in the Atlanta area. Fellows will rotate and read studies across the different hospitals, including the Grady Memorial Hospital, the fifth-largest public hospital in the United States, as well as one of the busiest Level I trauma centers in the country, and the Winship Cancer Institute, Georgia`s only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center. Emory Healthcare is continuously upgrading its state-of-the-art equipment, including dual source Siemens Somatom Force and Definition Flash CT scanners, Canon Aquilion One 640 slice-CT, Siemens Somatom go.Top, GE Revolution CT scanners, and multiple state-of-the-art Siemens 1.5-T Avanto and 3-T Trio MRI scanners.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be ABR Board-certified or eligible, complete a US or Canadian residency program and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted Georgia medical license.
