Oxford College of Emory University, in concert with Emory College of Arts and Sciences, seeks to appoint an Asa Griggs Candler Professor to its faculty beginning in fall 2019.  The Candler Professorship is a university-wide professorship conferred upon some of most eminent members of the Emory faculty.  Candidates should have research and teaching qualifications commensurate with the appointment of full professors at Oxford College and a national profile in one’s field.

We envision this position as a professor of African American studies whose scholarship and teaching illuminates the understanding of leadership, via topics such as the processes, movements, actors, narratives, motivations, contexts, values, and ends of leadership.  Humanists and social scientists are welcome to apply.

This Candler Professor will hold a principal appointment at Oxford College, located on Emory’s original campus 36 miles east of Atlanta, with a joint appointment in Emory College of Arts and Sciences, with the balance of teaching load to be determined.  This scholar-teacher will play an influential role for Oxford College to realize a key priority of its recently completed strategic plan: to enhance the curricular study of leadership within a distinctive liberal-arts college at Emory that values the intellectual and personal development of its undergraduates as engaged scholars, citizens, and leaders.  This professor will collaborate with faculty colleagues across the nine schools of Emory University to build networks and initiatives for understanding and applying insights of leadership.

Oxford College is a residential liberal arts college for 950 first- and second-year students within a research university with remarkable momentum and a strategic institutional commitment to leadership, social change, and inclusion.  Oxford is located on Emory's stunning, historic campus, 36 miles from Emory's Atlanta campus, now ex-urban Atlanta.
