    DEPARTMENTAL STRUCTURE:  The Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery co-directs the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) Cardiac Service Line, known as Sibley Heart Center, in partnership with the CHOA Chief of Cardiology.  The Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery reports directly to the Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Emory Department of Surgery.  Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery faculty members will report directly to the Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery. The Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery division will provide patient care at the following locations; Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and Emory University’s main campus (Clifton).   



    1. Provide leadership in the development, implementation and promotion of cardiothoracic surgery initiatives designed to deliver patient care that is safe, personal, coordinated and of the highest quality and value.
    1. Work collaboratively with your counterparts in Cardiology and Anesthesiology in the development and implementation of care pathways and protocols to ensure an optimum level of care is being delivered.
    1. Responsible for the recruitment & promotion of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery faculty and their subsequent development.
    1. In collaboration with their administrative partners, annually set full deployment of faculty and respective productivity targets and expectations on an individual or group basis and review through the evaluation process throughout the year.
    1. Work collaboratively with their administrative partners to ensure the financial and operational success of the CHOA Cardiac Service Line. The Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery chief is dually responsible for achieving programmatic excellence as well as maintaining financial viability of the service line.
    1. Should have demonstrated experience in promoting a culture that is collaborative, team oriented, and one that respects the skill sets and opinions of all faculty and staff.
    1. Develop academic and research interests, contribute to the field and submit for publication 1 - 2 peer reviewed articles a year.
    1. Participate in the development of unique clinical and basic research specific to Pediatric Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery.

    2. Collaboration with faculty within and across Divisions/Departments/Centers and with the Hospitals to develop annual and longterm plans for improving health care quality, safety, process improvement and value.
    1. Should have demonstrated experience/knowledge of strategic planning, finances including budgets and the basic principles of faculty practice plans, operations improvement, and health system development and management. Should also have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and education environment and a continued commitment to do so.
    1. Hold divisional faculty meetings at least once a month.



    • Candidates must have demonstrated administrative and leadership accomplishments as well as an aptitude for mentoring and staff development.
    • Successful candidates should possess excellent clinical skills and a strong track record in research and teaching as well as an in depth understanding of the practice of academic medicine.
    • Candidates should have scholarly accomplishments in the health sciences, as well as recognition in the field of Pediatric Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery as evidenced by involvement in clinical societies at a national level. The position includes participation in education efforts for the ACGME-accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency
    • Academic rank of associate professor or professor required.
    • Board certified in Surgery and Thoracic Surgery.
    • Must possess a valid unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Georgia.
    • Must possess a valid controlled Substance Registration Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate.
    • Must sign the Non-Compete Agreement of The Emory Clinic, Inc. as a condition of employment.
