Located 36 miles east of Atlanta, Oxford College of Emory University seeks a scholar to fill the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of German Studies to begin August 2019. The successful candidate will have a PhD in German Studies or related field prior to appointment, strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, and an active research agenda. Secondary areas of specialization are open but preference will be given to candidates with expertise in areas that connect with or contribute to Oxford College’s liberal arts curriculum and support the German major/minor of the Emory College of Arts and Sciences Department of German Studies. Teaching responsibilities are three courses per semester. The successful candidate will teach first- and second-year German language courses, one of Oxford College’s Discovery Seminars, and other courses within their area(s) of expertise.
A PhD in German studies or related field completed by time of appointment, at least one year of prior teaching experience, a commitment to and record of teaching excellence, native or near-native German language proficiency, ability to develop and maintain a dynamic German Studies program, and an active scholarly research agenda.
