Reporting to the Head of Research and Access Services, the Reference Librarian and Outreach Coordinator (RLOC) will be a key member of Pitts Theology Library’s reference and instruction team and will coordinate the library’s efforts to advertise and promote its collections and instructional offerings. As a member of the reference team, the RLOC will help lead orientation for all new students at the Candler School of Theology and other units at the University. The RLOC will also work with Emory faculty to develop and deliver library instruction and tutorials tailored to specific classes and supply ongoing research assistance to all patrons, including local and distance students. Depending on subject-matter expertise, the RLOC may also play a role in selection of materials for acquisition and collection development.
As the outreach coordinator, the RLOC will lead the library’s efforts to advertise its resources at Emory, in Atlanta, and to researchers around the world. This outreach work entails coordinating the library’s exhibitions program (http://exhibitions.pitts.emory.edu ), designing digital and print signage and promotional materials, managing the library’s social media accounts, and coordinating the work of library volunteers. The RLOC will also lead existing outreach programs at the library, such as the “Hands on History” high school program, and continue to develop other ways in which the library’s collections can have greater impact at Emory and beyond.
Rank of Assistant Librarian is for new professionals or early career with less than six (6) years of professional experience with appropriate service, professional development, and scholarly contributions. Generally responsible for a full range of library services to include subject specialty/curator, collection/digital archivist, expertise in preservation, research and reference, outreach and education, and technical services. Individual contributor to the collaborative work of the department and the library. Specialist may supervise students.
