The laboratory offers a comprehensive range of cytogenetic and genomic diagnostic services, including constitutional and oncology cytogenetics, FISH, chromosomal copy number/SNP microarray, DNA methylation-based classification of CNS tumors, and NGS and emerging genomic technologies.

Clinical Responsibilities

The Assistant Directors will participate in the clinical operations and medical oversight of the Cytogenetics Laboratory, including:

  • Reviewing, interpreting, and signing out clinical cytogenetic and molecular studies, including karyotype, FISH, chromosomal microarray, methylation, NGS, and other genomic testing
  • Providing consultation to clinicians regarding test selection, interpretation, and follow-up testing
  • Developing, validating, implementing, and optimizing new clinical assays and genomic technologies in collaboration with laboratory leadership, staff, and clinical stakeholders to expand clinical testing services
  • Participating in quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and laboratory improvement initiatives, including troubleshooting technical and clinical issues
  • Collaborating across pathology, genetics, oncology, pediatrics, and other clinical disciplines through multidisciplinary conferences, tumor boards, and other clinical activities

Academic Opportunities

Emory offers a rich academic environment supporting clinical innovation, teaching, research, and scholarship. Faculty will have opportunities to:

  • Educate and mentor pathology residents, fellows, medical students, and other trainees
  • Collaborate on clinical, translational, and genomic research across Emory University and Emory Healthcare
  • Develop scholarly and quality-improvement initiatives and contribute to publications, abstracts, and presentations
  • Advance the integration of cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics, and genomic medicine

Qualifications

  • D., D.O., Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree, with ABMGG board certification or eligibility in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG), or ABMGG board certification in Clinical Cytogenetics and Clinical Molecular Genetics/Genomics
  • Expertise in clinical cytogenetics and/or genomic diagnostics, including chromosome analysis, FISH, chromosomal microarray, and molecular testing
  • Experience with NGS, bioinformatics, genomic data analysis, variant interpretation, and clinical assay development is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across laboratory, clinical, and academic teams

As one of the nation's leading NIH-funded academic pathology departments, Emory provides an exceptional environment for collaboration, innovation, and academic growth.
