The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for the position of Director of Comprehensive Sickle Cell Pain Program. The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center provides a rich and collaborative environment for clinical research and boasts a large diverse faculty. Chronic pain has been identified as the most important inadequately addressed clinical challenge of the SCD Program, and significant resources have been identified to support the development of a robust academic chronic pain program.
This new position is an important component of the Aflac Strategic Plan and represents the next major step in the expansion and future development of the Aflac Sickle Cell Disease Program. This position will allow collaborations with faculty in diverse disciplines within Emory, GA Tech, the Morehouse School of Medicine and offers a wealth of opportunities for research collaborations.
Successful candidates will have:
Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments. The focus of this position will be innovative research. This position will be expected to engage in clinical service and in mentorship of junior faculty and will have dedicated time for administrative duties.
- MD or MD/PhD
- A strong record of scholarship and appropriate funding as an independent investigator, and will be expected to work in a collaborative fashion conducting nationally recognized research in pediatric pain.
- A history of academic excellence/achievement
- A history of mentorship of faculty to support significant growth in research and scholarship
- A history of service or leadership in pediatric pain and the ability to direct and support future development of the Comprehensive SCD Chronic Pain Program
