The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine within the Emory University School of Medicine is requesting applications for the Director of the Core Laboratory at Emory University Hospital, at the faculty rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, commensurate with experience. Applicants must possess an earned M.D and/or Ph.D. with board certification in either Clinical Pathology or Clinical Chemistry. We are seeking a highly-motivated individual with broad experience in academic Core Laboratories, including expertise in the areas of laboratory operations, total automation, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis. Additionally, the ideal candidate would have experience in LCMSMS and capillary electrophoresis in order to oversee the special chemistry laboratory, as well as interest and expertise in related areas including point-of-care-testing, toxicology, pharmacogenomics, and/or operation of diagnostic management teams. Successful applicants will be expected to have an established record of scientific excellence in research activities, and to contribute to teaching at the professional and graduate levels.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of Emory University is one of the largest training centers for pathologists in the United States. As such, it offers unique and exciting teaching, clinical service, and research environments with programs in Immunology, Pathology Informatics, Molecular Diagnostics, Flow Cytometry, Transfusion Medicine and Coagulation, and a COMACC-approved Clinical Chemistry Fellowship. In addition, the presence at Emory of world-renowned clinical programs in cancer research, cardiology, transplantation, and neuroscience offers a full range of opportunities for creative collaboration. The Department provides professional oversight for pathology services provided by Emory Medical Laboratory (EML) at locations including Emory University Hospital (587 beds), Emory University Hospital-Midtown (511 beds) and Emory University Orthopedic and Spine Hospital (60 beds). EML manages 6 million tests per year and employs approximately 500 laboratory professionals. In addition, EML has over 25 faculty members who actively participate in the clinical, research, and education missions of Emory Healthcare. While this position will be based primarily at the Emory University Hospital, occasional activities will occur at other Emory Healthcare locations as well.
