Department of Environmental Sciences, Emory University, Atlanta, GA

The Department of Environmental Sciences (ENVS) at Emory University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Applied Ecology, to begin in Fall 2026. We seek a dynamic and collaborative scholar whose research focuses on the ecological processes that sustain biodiversity and ecosystem function, and who applies this knowledge to the management, conservation, restoration, or resilience of ecosystems facing environmental pressures.

We are especially interested in candidates whose work addresses:

  • Monitoring and management of species at risk, biological communities, or ecosystem health
  • Ecosystem resilience and conservation planning in the context of global environmental change
  • Use of integrated field, lab-based, and quantitative methods
  • Applied ecological science that engages with government agencies, non-governmental partners, and/or community organizations
  • Innovative strategies for addressing challenges in biodiversity conservation, disturbance regimes, or climate-driven ecological change

Candidates may work across terrestrial, freshwater or coastal systems, and those whose research connects local ecological patterns with global-scale processes are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Develop an externally funded, impactful research program
  • Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including in our new PhD program in Environmental Sciences and Society
  • Contribute to undergraduate courses in applied ecology and to field- or methods-based courses aligned with their expertise
  • Collaborate across disciplines to address pressing environmental challenges

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in ecology, conservation biology, environmental science, or a related field by the time of appointment
  • Evidence of scholarly potential and commitment to teaching and mentorship
  • A strong record or promise of external funding and interdisciplinary engagement

About the Department:
