Job Description  

The Assistant Coach performs coaching responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach. 

 

This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity and reputation of Emory University and the Athletics program and positively impacts the relationship between the University and its students, faculty, staff, alumni and community.

 

 Recruiting  

These duties are year-round.  

  • Assist in identifying top qualified prospects.
  • Participates in activities related to on-campus and off-campus recruiting of prospective studentathletes. • Oftentimes, phone calls are made outside typical business hours to accommodate students’ schedules.
  • Coordinates in-person visits and itineraries including meetings with current student-athletes and visiting Emory classes.
  • Create connections nationally with club and high school coaches.
  • Travel to meets locally, regionally, and nationally. Assess talent, academic profile and character to determine potential of prospects.
  • Manages extensive recruiting database of all prospective student-athletes recruiting meets, including phone calls, emails, and video. Manages outreach, collecting meet schedules, grade updates, and tracking communication.

 

 Administrative Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Assists with purchasing and inventory of equipment, uniforms, gear, food, and team supplies.
  • Communicates with Equipment Room and Facilities staff. Reserve meeting room space for team meetings and events.
  • Communicates with Sports Medicine, Sports Communication, Strength and Conditioning and administrative staff when necessary.  
  • Social media manager. Create content to connect with current team, campus, alumni, parents and prospective student-athletes.  Will consistently promote the Emory brand.  This branding is used to identify potential student-athletes as well. 
  • Expense reconciliation and reports. Will be a good steward of Emory finances.
  • Academic meetings. Conduct sessions with student-athletes throughout the year when necessary.  

 

Coaching: Practice, Game Plan Preparations and Strategies  

  • Prepare daily practices. Set up facilities with equipment.  Assist in practice direction of studentathletes on and off the field.  Teach drills and techniques to advance player development.  Conduct some individual workouts.  
  • Travel responsibilities. Coordinates and executes travel arrangements including bus travel, air travel, meals, hotel reservations, and practices while traveling.  Communicate with restaurants ensuring meals are delivered on time, discuss dietary restrictions for players, along with meal portions.  Example: one travel trip can consist of 6-10 meals for 65 people.  Communicates with bus drivers, hotels, etc.  
  • Ensure gear is clean and prepared for all contests and practices, home and away.
  • Assists with maintenance and safety oversight of the facility.

 

Other Duties  

  • Ensures compliance with NCAA, UAA, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the planning of special events – team banquets, senior day, alumni gatherings, etc.
  • Attend department and Campus Life meetings and events as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Previous playing and/or coaching experience.
  • Strong abilities to work in student-athlete development and their commitment to their athletic and academic success.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • High work ethic, positive attitude, and professionalism at all times.
  • Current certification in CPR/First Aid/AED.
