JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career.
  • The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc.
  • Designs and evaluates experiments.
  • Develops new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
  • May be responsible for operation of specific equipment.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff.
  • Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee.
  • The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available.
  • Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field.
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
  • Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

Description: A full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position is available within the Department of Epidemiology at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Heal. The candidate will be mentored by Dr. Joshua D. Wallach, with opportunities to work with other students and faculty at Emory University and Yale University.

Position Details: Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Joshua Wallach and Dr. Joseph Ross on projects focused on the role of evidence in policy decision-making, regulation, and the use of medical products. They will be expected to lead 1–2 independent research projects with the goal of publication in high-impact medical journals and will contribute to an ongoing grant focused on evaluating the role of real-world evidence in clinical, regulatory, and policy contexts. Candidates will also have the opportunity to engage in additional research projects related to evidence synthesis, meta-research, and clinical research integrity and transparency.

The role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to design, implement, and monitor research activities. In addition to these responsibilities, candidates will gain experience in translating and disseminating research findings into actionable policy recommendations for a range of audiences, including policymakers, collaborating organizations, and the public.

Qualifications and Skills

1. A PhD, ScD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent degree, with experience in clinical research, epidemiology, pharmacology, or related fields

2. Strong background in epidemiological/statistical methods, as well as evidence synthesis, including coursework and research experience.

3. Programming experience using clinical research datasets (e.g., R, SAS, STATA).

4. Strong written and oral communication skills.

5. Experience in translation and dissemination of research findings to broader audiences is preferred, but not required.

Salary will be based on the NIH postdoctoral research salary scale. The position is for one year, with possible renewal at the second year depending on funding and performance.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department.
