The successful candidate will work on federally funded projects aimed at developing and applying novel microscopy platforms, including slide-free imaging and multimodal techniques, for high-resolution analysis of human tissues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and conduct experiments using advanced optical microscopy and tissue imaging methods (e.g., fluorescence, reflectance, or label-free modalities).
  • Collaborate on development and optimization of imaging instrumentation and workflows.
  • Perform tissue preparation, imaging, and data acquisition on fresh and fixed samples.
  • Work closely with pathologists, surgeons, and computational scientists to validate imaging technologies for diagnostic and research use.
  • Analyze imaging data and contribute to publications, conference presentations, and grant proposals.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate trainees as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field.
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
  • Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with optical design, image processing, or instrument prototyping.
  • Programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW for data analysis and system control.
  • Experience with AI or machine learning in imaging is a bonus but not required.
  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Bioengineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong hands-on experience with microscopy systems (confocal, widefield, fluorescence, or custom-built).
  • Experience in tissue handling, histological techniques, or pathology workflows is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills and a track record of scientific productivity.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
