Description

The Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (NHWSN) is seeking a Specialty Director: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program (DNP and PGC) to be an organizational champion, strategic leader, and tactical contributor – guiding the faculty team, facilitating student engagement, and leading the delivery of high-quality education.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide internal and external leadership for the program/specialty that advances the NHWSN mission, vision, and values.
  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Education to develop goals and metrics and collaborate with internal and external strategic partners integral to achieving outcomes.
  • Lead program/specialty faculty team, student engagement, and delivery of high-quality education.
  • Develop and evaluate internal and external metrics and feedback systems for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and evaluate a strategic plan for increasing the visibility, reputation, and national ranking of the program/specialty.
  • Facilitate programmatic/specialty strategic initiatives with faculty, staff, students, alumni, practice partners, and the community.
  • Serve on or lead various school, university, and professional committees, advisory groups, task forces, or projects as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Education; Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion, Admissions, and Student Affairs; Program/Specialty Directors; Program Administrators; Curriculum, Progression, and Program Evaluation Committees; and faculty to ensure program outcomes and continuous improvement, including collaboration on course offerings, program changes, and student experiences.
  • Collaborate with leaders of NHWSN departments.

 The Associate Dean for Education will provide oversight and be a strategic partner regarding continuous improvement and issue resolution regarding curriculum, faculty, students, and staff.

 

 Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (DNP, PhD, or equivalent)
  • National certification as PMHNP, as well as Georgia RN/APRN licensure
  • Experience in nursing education and practice
  • Academic nursing leadership experience

 This position is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and requires relocation. This is a three-year position with re-appointment annually based upon performance appraisal of the Associate Dean for Education and Associate Dean for Academic Advancement.

 

Position Details
The Specialty Director: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program (DNP and PGC) will ensure the following:

  • Organizational Champion
  • Strategically align with the NHWSN Leadership team.
  • Cultivate innovative approaches to advance program/specialty in accordance with NHWSN’s mission and vision.
  • Lead the implementation and evaluation of all aspects of competency-based education to improve student learning and ensure success.
  • Lead strategic action with key stakeholders integral to achieving student learning and program outcomes.
  • Work closely with Clinical Placement in obtaining and evaluating clinical sites and learning experiences
  • Leadership and Management
  • Lead the program/specialty to eminence in outcomes and reputation.
  • Exhibit vision, courage, and optimism.
  • Collaborate with NHWSN, Emory, and community leaders to promote community engagement and establish and sustain partnerships.
  • Advance high-quality education and student success in collaboration with faculty.
  • Oversee and advance program/specialty student experience and outcomes.
  • Advance inclusive excellence priorities in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion, Admissions, and Student Affairs.
  • Lead student engagement that fosters leadership and student outcomes.
  • Provide leadership in the management of program/specialty through program planning, curriculum development, implementation of innovations, and systematic evaluation.
  • Ensure use of innovative technology-mediated teaching methods and tools for continuous improvement of the program/specialty.
  • Champion online learning delivery models (post-licensure).
  • Ensure achievement of credentialing and accreditation standards.
  • Advise on hiring, supervision, and evaluation of the program/specialty faculty, including identifying programmatic needs for faculty recruitment and retention.
  • Responsible for faculty assignments in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Education and Associate Dean for Academic Advancement.
  • Ensure strategic alignment with the NHWSN leadership team as a member or ex-officio member of NHWSN committees, including the Curriculum Committee, Progression Committee, Program Evaluation Committee, and Faculty Search (as applicable).
  • University and Community Engagement
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with Emory University, the Woodruff Health Sciences Center, Emory Healthcare, and community leaders to advance program/specialty and outcomes.
  • Support strategic alignment with the NHWSN leadership team, as a member of external committees.
  • Advising/Mentoring
  • Develop and oversee student success initiatives in partnership with Nursing Excellence, Scholarship, Technology (NEST), a cross-discipline academic support program
  • Mentor program/specialty faculty to advance scholarship and professional development outcomes.

  • Student Recruitment and Enrollment
  • Advance NHWSN goals for enrollment in collaboration with Admissions and Finance.
  • Establish standards for student eligibility, using internal and external data, and support admission of high-quality candidates.

  • Metrics and Outcomes
  • Ensure program/specialty outcomes meet national standards and licensure and certification pass rates.
  • Advance enrollment growth.
  • Advance retention and graduation rates.
  • Advance program/specialty national recognition.
