Description

Emory University

Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine

Director of Surgical Pathology

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time non-tenure Director of Surgical Pathology at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor to oversee Surgical Pathology at two hospitals, Emory University Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown, which are part of a large academic medical center that serves the metro Atlanta area and the surrounding community.

The successful candidate will join an interactive, collegial group of faculty who evaluate a wide variety of surgical and cytologic specimens. Emory University has one of the largest AP/CP residencies in the country, 12 accredited subspecialty fellowships, and close ties to the NCI-designated Winship Cancer Institute, which creates abundant opportunities for clinical and translational scholarship and teaching (see www.pathology.emory.edu).

Qualified candidates will hold an MD, MD/PhD, or DO degree and be board certified in Anatomic Pathology with at least five years of postgraduate experience and fellowship training or expertise in one of the subspecialties of surgical pathology or cytopathology. The successful candidate will work closely with the Vice-Chair of Anatomic Pathology and the Emory Medical Laboratory Leadership. Primary administrative responsibilities include, but are not limited to, scheduling surgical pathology and cytology coverage at the two hospitals in a complex subspecialty environment, collaborate with leaders in Emory Medical Laboratory to optimize specimen workflow and ensure quality for patient care, and participate in an on-going project for expansion of digital pathology for all surgical pathology subspecialties.  Applicants must also be eligible for medical licensure in Georgia.  Compensation and faculty rank will be commensurate with qualifications.
