Emory's School of Medicine is looking for a Post Doctoral Fellow to join our team! Specific duties include:
1. Develops and implements research projects in conjunction with PI; identifies methodological problems in research protocols and develops solutions to those problems.
2. Independently performs assessments of epithelial and immune cell responses to bacterial infection.
3. Collects and analyzes data in accordance with appropriate statistical procedures and prepare reports, inclusive of graphs, tables, and captured images of the results of studies.
4. Maintains detailed laboratory notebooks and electronic records.
5. Monitors use of reagents and supplies to assure budgetary constraints are followed.
6. Communicates daily with PI and lab teammates to discuss results, progress, and coordination of efforts.
To be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
• Independently execute research studies according to grant and research proposals within stated deadlines, while also working collaboratively with senior staff.
• Analyze data and prepare results of experimental findings for presentation to colleagues, at professional conferences and for publication in scientific journals.
• Assure compliance with research protocols and safety requirements.
• Oversee and direct undergraduate and graduate students, research interns and other trainees in the timely completion of experiments, proper conduct of research and accurate record keeping.
• Support a collaborative research environment and provides guidance on technical and operational aspects of research.
• Actively participate in collaborative lab meetings to present data.
• Read and review scientific literature.
• Manage laboratory needs (e.g. ordering, organizing, training and compliance).
JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
Specific preferred skills:
1. Skilled in laboratory techniques required for imaging, RNA and genetic analysis (bulk and/or single-cell RNAseq), immunological assessments (e.g. flow cytometry, Western blotting, immunofluorescent microscopy).
2. Must have strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in work.
3. Must have excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
4. Must be able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
5. Willing and eager to learn novel and evolving technologies.
6. Excellent math skills are required.
7. Utilizes software applications to assemble, format and perform statistical analyses of data.
8. Eager to develop new protocols.
9. Bioinformatics experience is encouraged.
