Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.
The Murray laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Post-doctoral Research Fellow to join their team. The majority of the efforts will be dedicated to investigating the infectious pathogens responsible for acute febrile illness affecting populations in resource-limited countries.
RESEARCH:
Emerging infectious diseases are a serious public health threat in resource-limited settings. In the Murray lab, we have been investigating the causes of acute febrile illness in Belize and El Salvador. One or more pathogens are identified in approximately 45% of enrolled cases; however, the majority go unexplained. We are interested in applying whole genome sequencing and other molecular tools to discover novel pathogens and role these pathogens can play in causing disease. We are also interested in further interrogating the epidemiology of emerging pathogens, the vectors and reservoirs involved in disease transmission, and risk to human health.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
