Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled podiatric foot and ankle provider to join our team. This position specializes in diagnosing, treating, and managing foot and ankle complications associated with diabetes mellitus. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of diabetes-related foot and ankle disorders, surgical interventions, and a compassionate approach to patient care.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Diagnose and assess foot and ankle complications: Evaluate patients with diabetes mellitus who are experiencing foot and ankle complications, including infections, ulcers, neuropathy, deformities, and circulatory disorders.
  1. Develop and execute treatment plans: Create individualized treatment plans based on patients' conditions, taking into account medical history, severity of the condition, patient lifestyle, and preferences. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including primary care physicians, endocrinologists, vascular surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, infectious disease experts and wound care specialists, to provide comprehensive care
  1. Monitor post-operative care: Oversee and manage post-operative care, including wound healing, infection control, pain management, and rehabilitation. Provide appropriate referrals and collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists and orthotists, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  1. Educate patients and their families: Educate patients and their families about effective diabetic foot and ankle care, emphasizing prevention strategies, proper footwear, and foot hygiene. Provide guidance on self-care techniques, ranging from blood sugar control to regular inspection and care of the feet and ankles.
  1. Stay updated with research and best practices: Stay abreast of the latest research, advancements, and best practices in the field of diabetic foot and ankle care. Participate in all research projects as part of the Diabetic Foot Group at Grady Hospital, and in accordance with the mission of Emory University School of Medicine. Participate in professional development activities, including attending conferences, workshops, and seminars, to enhance knowledge and skills.

Requirements:

 

  1. Medical degree: Possess a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M) degree from an accredited medical school.
  1. Board certification: Hold board certification or eligibility in Foot and Ankle Surgery
  1. State licensure: Maintain a valid medical license to practice as a Foot and Ankle treatment, ensuring compliance with relevant state regulations and requirements.
  1. Experience: Have completed a full three year residency in podiatric medicine with additional reconstructive rearfoot and ankle credentialing (PMSR/RRA). 
  1. Interdisciplinary collaboration: Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and their families.
  1. Compassionate patient care: Exhibit empathy, understanding, and compassion towards patients with diabetes mellitus, while fostering trust and establishing a therapeutic rapport.
  1. Continuous learning mindset: Show a commitment to ongoing professional development and staying up-to-date with the latest trends, research, and advancements in diabetic foot and ankle care.
  1. Attention to detail: Display exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to practicing evidence-based medicine, ensuring accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
  1. Compliance: Adhere to ethical, legal, and regulatory standards, ensuring patient confidentiality and maintaining accurate medical records.
  1. Academics: mentor, educate, supervise and train residents and fellows in accordance with policy and vision of Emory University School of Medicine
