The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), (http://bme.gatech.edu) a joint department between Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering and Emory University’s School of Medicine (Atlanta, GA), invites applications for a program director of the newly formed Masters of Biomedical Innovation and Development (MBID-AT) in the area of Advanced Therapeutics.  The position will be a 12-month appointment at Emory University as a clinical, research, teaching (CRT), non-tenured, Associate or Full Professor, renewal yearly. 

 

The program director will lead MBID-AT program which is focused on training masters students on topics of industrial relevance to the emergent advanced therapeutics industries such as cell therapies, gene therapy, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.  The program is focused on providing training, professional development, planning and placement for industry leaders in the advanced therapeutics industries.  Highlights of the program characteristics include that it will be a full time, residential Master degree program comprised of a 1 year, on-campus curriculum in a unified cohort setting. The curriculum will consist of a set sequence of 30 credit hours required to cover all necessary topics concerning advanced therapeutics conception, development and commercialization.

 

Responsibilities of the MBID-AT Program Director will be:

• Oversee program direction, student engagement and progress
• Oversee program operations and ensuring program quality
• Coordinate and/or teach at least one, if not more courses or course content
• Respond proactively to student learning issues
• Facilitate program continuity and overall organization of program
• Interact with industry and academia to identify instructors and team project ideas
• Mentor course directors and instructors
• Cultivate project mentor roster from industry and academia
• The Program Director will report to the BME Chair
• The Program Director will participate in administration of a Laney Graduate School program with associated responsibilities as a Director of Graduate Studies.

 

A successful candidate will be one who has:

• A M.D or Ph.D. degree or equivalent
• 10 years minimum industry experience
• Experience in areas of Advanced Therapies industry such as product development, R&D, project management, quality control and regulatory.
• Experience in large biomedical industries as well as startups would be considered a positive attribute, as would experience in commercializing products from concept to product.
• An entrepreneurial spirit would be a desirable attribute.
• Motivation to mentor students and to teach the next generation of leaders for the Advanced Therapies industry would be required.
• Person of integrity and high standards, strong interpersonal skills, and well-organized
• Person who is well-connected and regarded in the Advanced Therapies industry
• Value and propagate a diverse and ethical program culture
